Psycho-sexology path

The psycho-sexological path is a type of therapeutic intervention aimed at treating the difficulties and disorders related to a person's sexual and relational sphere. It involves the exploration and intervention of psychological, emotional and relational aspects that influence an individual's sexuality.

The psycho-sexological path can be conducted by a professional specialized in clinical psychology or sexology, such as a psychotherapist psychologist or a clinical sexologist. This type of therapeutic intervention is based on an integrative approach, which incorporates principles and techniques from different theories and therapeutic models.

During the psycho-sexological journey, the professional works with the individual to address a wide range of issues related to sexuality, including:

  1. Sexual dysfunctions: The psycho-sexological path can treat disorders such as erectile dysfunction, premature or delayed ejaculation, sexual anhedonia, hypoactive sexual desire disorder, vaginismus, dyspareunia and other sexual difficulties.

  2. Sexual orientation and gender identity: The psycho-sexological path can help people to explore and accept their sexual orientation and gender identity, providing support and accompaniment in the process of self-acceptance and management of challenges related to discrimination or social prejudice.

  3. Relationship problems: The psycho-sexological path can address couple and relationship problems that can affect the sexual sphere, such as lack of communication, conflict, lack of intimacy or infidelity.

  4. Trauma and sexual abuse: The psycho-sexual path can be useful for people who have suffered trauma or sexual abuse, offering support in managing the emotional and psychological consequences, such as post-abuse trauma and sexual rehabilitation.

  5. Self-esteem and body image problems: The psycho-sexological path can help people develop healthy self-esteem, to accept and love their body and to overcome insecurities or complexes that can influence sexuality.

The objective of the psycho-sexological path is to promote healthy, rewarding and conscious sexuality, improve the quality of sexual life and promote overall psychological and relational well-being.

Problems in the sexual sphere always imply, when they are of psychogenic origin and in the absence of organic correlates, some implication of a personal nature and/or of the emotional life of the couple. This is precisely because human sexuality, in addition to having bio-medical aspects, is above all "something for someone", that is, it can never be separated from the meanings that people attribute to their experiences. In a nutshell, human sexuality is never a merely "mechanical" fact, on the contrary, it is essentially characterized by its involvement of an emotional and psychic nature, which can be tackled precisely through an individual or couple psychotherapy process.
